Activity Manager – Derrynane Sea Sports
Season: June–September (possible earlier start or extension)
Location: Derrynane Sea Sports, Co. Kerry
Derrynane Sea Sports is one of the most beautiful places to work on the Wild Atlantic Way, offering sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing, snorkelling, sea camps and beach-based adventures in a breathtaking bay. We’re looking for a caring, enthusiastic and highly organised Activity Manager to help lead our seasonal team and ensure smooth, safe and fun operations throughout the busy summer months.
As Activity Manager, you will oversee day-to-day operations at Derrynane Sea Sports, support a team of Activity Officers and instructors, and work closely with Sea Synergy’s Operations Manager to keep everything running at a high standard. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who loves working outdoors, inspiring others, and creating memorable ocean experiences.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Lead, support and supervise a team of up to 10 Activity Officers and sports instructors
- Plan and coordinate weekly schedules, camps, lessons, and activity timetables
- Manage bookings in collaboration with the Admin Officer
- Ensure safe, smooth daily operations across all activities at Derrynane Sea Sports
- Maintain high safety standards and oversee risk management procedures
- Support instructors on the ground and mentor new staff members
- Communicate warmly and professionally with guests, parents, and visitors
- Assist with or deliver water-sports sessions depending on certifications (SUP, kayak, snorkel)
- Oversee equipment checks, storage, and maintenance throughout the season
- Liaise regularly with Sea Synergy’s Operations Manager
- Support general promotion of activities when needed
Activity Officer – Derrynane Sea Sports & Sea Synergy
Season: June–September (possible earlier start or extension)
Locations: Derrynane Sea Sports & Sea Synergy Cahersiveen
Sea Synergy is seeking energetic, positive and ocean-loving Activity Officers to help deliver our popular summer programmes. These roles are perfect for enthusiastic team players who enjoy working with children, families and visitors while sharing their passion for the sea.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Lead and support children’s summer camps with creativity, fun and safety
- Guide guests during kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling or beach-based sessions
- Assist with delivering water sports activities depending on certifications
- Lead seashore safaris and environmental education sessions
- Run or assist with booking systems and guest check-ins
- Maintain equipment, check gear weekly, and ensure safety standards
- Support community initiatives including beach cleans, surveys or events
- Teach or assist with marine wildlife interpretation (flora, fauna, birds)
- Attend weekly team meetings and help allocate tasks for interns
- Promote activities through social media content when needed
- For Cahersiveen-based role: assist Research Team with oyster and seagrass surveys where appropriate
Research Officer – Sea Synergy
Season: March–October (subject to funding)
Location: Cahersiveen & Derrynane area
Sea Synergy is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and scientifically minded individuals to join our Research Team for the 2025 season. We currently run biodiversity and restoration projects focusing on oysters and seagrass, contributing to local conservation and community engagement along the Kerry coastline.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate all fieldwork activities
- Plan, schedule and run biodiversity and restoration surveys (oyster & seagrass)
- Manage data collection, collation, quality control and interpretation
- Produce clear seasonal reports with recommendations
- Oversee and mentor interns assisting with fieldwork
- Organise equipment, gear, and safety logistics for field days
- Coordinate citizen-science events and community engagement opportunities
- Deliver outreach sessions and share findings with the public
- Support grant applications, funding reports, and project planning
- Collaborate with Activity Officers on education and marine activities
Research Assistant – Sea Synergy
Season: March–October (subject to funding)
Location: Cahersiveen & Derrynane area
The Research Assistant will support the Research Officer during all fieldwork activities. Both roles involve working closely with local communities, citizen scientists, and the Sea Synergy team to help connect people with their coastal environment.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Support the Research Officer during all fieldwork activities
- Help organise equipment, logistics, and survey prep
- Assist with data entry and management
- Help run citizen science sessions
- Support outreach, education and community engagement
- Assist in end-of-season reporting and mapping
- Collaborate with Activities Team when needed
