About Sea Synergy:
Founded in 2014 by Waterville local and marine biologist Lucy Hunt, award winning Sea Synergy is a Marine Awareness and Activity Center that offers a variety of meaningful activities, workshops, and adventures that empower all ages. Sea Synergy’s immersive experiences in the Skellig Coast’s rich local heritage and environment allow our clients to fully experience what Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way has to offer.
Guided tours and adventures are provided by marine biologists and specialists to facilitate a greater connection to nature and the local area. We have a variety of fun and educational workshops and activities such as Seashore Safaris, guided snorkeling, guided stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking, boat tours, village heritage walks, island visits, and mindfulness in nature meditations, which are open to all ages and aim to give participants a closer connection to nature.
Our Mission is to create meaningful experiences in nature for individuals or groups which are tailored to their needs and enable them to discover the rich diversity of Ireland’s environment and Wild Atlantic Way in a fun and memorable way.

Sea Synergy is seeking caring, motivated, committed individual to join our team in Waterville. In the role of Education & Activities Manager, individuals will introduce clients of all ages to local flora, fauna, and marine heritage. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to share their passion for nature and conservation by connecting people with the environment and instil in them a desire to protect it.

This is a one year contract with 6 month probationary period and opportunity for renewal at the years end. It is a full time position beginning March 2021.

- Degree in a relevant subject (BA/BSc in biology, ecology, marine biology, or related field) or equivalent experience in conservation or a related field
- Demonstrable qualities and skills necessary to collaborate effectively and with people at all levels and a variety of partners and stakeholders
- Be highly organised and self-reliant yet a good team player, responsive to the needs of colleagues
- Previous experience in group leadership, preferably with volunteers or teams
- Be confident managing monthly wages, and accounts
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Have own transport
- Ability to work long hours outdoors in variable weather
- Computer skills
- Social media experience

- Previous experience or teaching/coaching certificate in kayak, SUP, or other water sports (ASI etc)
- Life saving and Advanced First Aid skills
- Previous experience in public speaking
- Previous experience working with children (camps and activities)

The Education & Activities Manager will be required to manage all the activities delivered by Sea Synergy throughout the summer season and to undertake the following tasks:
Weekly:
- Scheduling for activities
- Leading Activities
- Team scheduling
- Weekly team meeting
- Allocating tasks for interns
- Promotion of activities
- Possible Aquarium care – feeding, maintenance and cleaning if necessary, daily recording of temp and water quality.
- Maintenance and cleaning
Monthly:
- Accounts
- Update online accounts management spreadsheets
- Check gear for wear and tear
- Update stock lists and inventories
Pre-Season:
- Reprint of any promotional materials required
- Check First aid kits and ensure all fully stocked and up to date
- Risk assessments updated for sites and activities
- Liability forms updated and printed
- Thorough check of all water sports and seashore gear – maintenance and repairs or replacements to be ordered
- Marketing for all upcoming events to be prepared
Post-Season:
- Thorough check on all water sports gear and seashore equipment, all gear to be stored safely in the trailer
Yearly:
- End of year accounts – company year end March 31st
- Iveragh Learning Landscapes in October is a place based outdoor education event that Sea Synergy co-founded in 2016 and has supported each year since then. (Lucy and Ellie spearheaded the event and IRD waterville also partner in it) Sea Synergy offer much support to the event as a base location for the weekend event and summer interns are encouraged to participate in the planning of the event and if present when the event is run receive free entry in exchange for providing support to organisers and feedback on individual workshops.There is always opportunity to participate in the organising committee for any Sea Synergy staff. Waterville, Co. Kerry (additional requirement to travel for Explorers Education Programme delivery from September-June). Work to be done from home office and from activities base at Lough Currane.

The payment of salary, travel and any other matters relating to the financial administration of the post will be the responsibility of Sea Synergy Ltd.

The salary rate for the position will be €12.50 per hour at 32-48 hours per week from March 2021 to March 2022 with potential to extend the contract at the end of the first year.

Any work travel undertaken by the Education & Activities Manager will be paid at approved Sea Synergy Ltd. rates.
